App

US Driver Test (美国驾考通) Support

US Driver Test is a practice app for US driver's license knowledge and drive tests. Any of the 50 states or Washington, D.C. can be your test state: you practice for its knowledge test from its driver's handbook and laws, read its drive-test notes, and see who can apply there, what to bring, the steps and the fees. The app is in English, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese (Taiwan) and Traditional Chinese (Hong Kong).

Every question you answer has an explanation and its source; you can ask AI about it and read questions other learners asked. Web pages in the app (this help page, the privacy policy, state websites and so on) open inside the app; tap Done to come back.

US Driver Test is developed by MeiSheng Technology. It is not an official product of any state's driver licensing agency (such as a DMV) and is not affiliated with or endorsed by any of them; each state's current handbook and official website govern. Each state's questions and key points are written in our own words from the state's laws, its licensing agency's public information and its driver's handbook; they are not official test questions. California's knowledge-test questions are adapted from the California Driver's Handbook, California Department of Motor Vehicles, licensed under CC BY-NC 4.0, and the Chinese questions are also translated; California's drive-test notes are based on the DMV's published drive-test criteria. For each state's handbook, edition and link, see Me → Settings → About US Driver Test → Sources by State in the app.

Frequently asked questions

Which states are covered, and how do I change my test state?
All 50 states and Washington, D.C. You choose your test state the first time you open the app; if you allow location, the state you're in is listed at the top. To change it later, tap your avatar at the top right of My Progress, go to Me → Settings → Test state, pick a state, look over its knowledge test and tap "Switch to this state". Practice records are kept per state, so switching doesn't lose them. You can search the list by name or postal code; in English it is in A–Z order, and in a Chinese interface it can be sorted by pinyin (by strokes in Traditional Chinese) or by English name.

What are the questions based on?
Each state's questions and key points are written in our own words from that state's driver's handbook, its laws and its licensing agency's public information; they are not official test questions. California's knowledge-test questions are adapted from the California Driver's Handbook (June 2025 edition) under CC BY-NC 4.0. Under each explanation is its source: a handbook page or a section of law; where the text may be quoted (California's handbook, laws), you can expand it. Drive-test notes are based on each state's published drive-test information and laws; they are not official material either, and are not part of the knowledge mock test. Each state's handbook, edition and link on the state's website are under Me → Settings → About US Driver Test → Sources by State.

Is the mock test like the real one?
Mock tests use your test state's number of questions and pass mark, shown at the top of the Mock Test tab. Some states publish these numbers; where a state doesn't publish the number of questions, the app uses the usual number and says so. Where the state sets a time limit, the mock test has the same limit and is handed in when time is up; where sign questions have their own pass mark (as in New York), you need enough of those right as well. Like the real test, mock tests show questions in the test's language with no translation, and show no answers until you hand them in. They are practice questions written from the handbook and laws, not official test questions, and their mix does not reflect the real test.

What are the five blocks in My Progress?
They follow the order of getting a license, each with a bar and a green check once done, one open at a time; until you pick one, the block you have got to is open.

Each block has a link to the place to work on it: "Go to Study Notes", "Go to Mock Test" or "Go to New Rules". At the bottom, Practice & Test Stats shows how many questions you have done, your accuracy, and every practice set and mock test.

What is Before the test?
It is the first block of My Progress and the top of Study Notes. For your test state it covers Who can apply, What to bring, Steps, This state's knowledge test (questions, pass mark, whether it is offered in Chinese), Fees, Out-of-state or foreign license, and Official links. Under What to bring, tap the circle when you have a document ready; this is saved on this device only, separately for each state. It is compiled from each state's driver licensing website, driver's manual and laws, and every item shows its source and the date it was checked. It is not legal advice or an official source; offices may differ, so check the official site before you go. For states still being compiled, it lists This state's knowledge test, Who can apply and Out-of-state or foreign license.

Which year are the fees from?
Before the test → Fees gives the price on the state's official website when we checked it, starting with the month and year, for example "Official website price as of October 2026". Fees may change; check the official site. The "Open the official fee page" link is right below.

What are State differences and By driver group?
Both are near the top of Study Notes. State differences: before driving in another state, pick that state to see which rules differ from your test state's, and switch between Differences and All rules. Each rule shows where it comes from (law, handbook or the agency's website); items not yet verified are not compared. By driver group gathers your test state's rules for four groups: New drivers (incl. minors): learner's permit, supervised driving, driver's ed, novice limits, first license as an adult; Older drivers: renewal terms, in-person renewal, vision, road tests; Drivers with disabilities: disability placards, fines, oral tests, adaptive equipment; Moving to a new state: deadline for new residents, retesting, exchanging a foreign license. Each page has "Compare with another state". Anyone can read them; the app never asks which group you are in.

I've moved from another state or country. How do I get a license here?
See Study Notes → By driver group → Moving to a new state, also opened from Before the test → Out-of-state or foreign license. For your test state it covers how soon new residents must switch, whether you need to retest, and whether a foreign license can be exchanged. "Compare with another state" shows how it differs from the state you came from. Check the state's official website before you go.

What languages does the app have?
Choose English, 简体中文, 繁體中文(台灣) or 繁體中文(香港) in Me → Settings → Display → App language; it changes right away. By default the app follows your system, and you can also change it in iOS Settings → US Driver Test → Language. With the app in English, everything is in English; on questions and explanations, 中文 shows a Chinese translation under each line, in the Chinese chosen under Display → Translate into. With the app in Chinese, explanations, key points and the rest are in the app's Chinese, and questions follow the state's test: in the test's Chinese where it is given in Chinese (with a button to switch between Simplified and Traditional), in English where it is not. Traditional characters are converted from Simplified; a few words may differ from the test's.

How do I read a state's English-only questions in Chinese?
Where a state's knowledge test is only in English (or its official sources don't say it is offered in Chinese), questions and answers are in English, as on the test, and with the app in Chinese the explanations are in Chinese. A Chinese translation appears under each line; it is on by default, and the 中文 button hides or shows it, remembered for next time. Once you have answered, tap an English word to see its Chinese, hear it, and add it to your Mae Tutor word list. Mock tests are like the real test: English only, no translation. Whether a state's test is offered in Chinese is shown at the top of Mock Test and in Before the test → This state's knowledge test.

Do I need an internet connection?
Questions are downloaded as you reach them: new questions need a connection, and questions already downloaded are kept encrypted on your device for offline practice. A mock test starts once all its questions are downloaded. State differences and Before the test need a connection the first time; after that they work offline. When the question bank is revised, the app updates it the next time it is online.

Why does it say I've reached today's limit for new questions?
To prevent bulk scraping of the question bank, each device and each account can download only so many new questions a day. Questions already downloaded are not affected; the limit resets the next day.

Do I need an account?
No. Every practice feature works without one, and your records stay on your device. Only Ask AI needs an account. Accounts are Meisheng Accounts, one account for US Driver Test and Mae Tutor: tap your avatar at the top right of My Progress, then "Sign In / Sign Up" at the top of Me, and sign in with Apple or Google, or sign up with your email (you verify it by email). If you signed up before, your username works too.

Where are my practice records kept?
Without an account, only on your device. Once you sign in, the records on the device join your account and sync between your iPhone and iPad signed in to it; Me → Settings → Sync shows the status and has "Sync Now". Records are kept per test state. To clear them, use Me → Settings → Storage → Clear Practice Records; while you are signed in, this also clears them in your account and on your other devices.

I forgot my password.
On the sign-in page tap "Forgot password?", enter your email, and set a new password with the 6-digit code we send (valid for 15 minutes). Once signed in, you can also use Me → Settings → Account Security → Change Password. Accounts made with Apple or Google may have no password; just sign in with Apple or Google. If the code doesn't arrive, check your spam folder, or email us.

How do I delete my data or my account?
Tap your avatar at the top right of My Progress and go to Me → Settings → Account Security. There are two options:

If you can no longer sign in, email us from the address you registered with and ask us to delete it. See the privacy policy for details.

How are "mastered" and "weak" worked out?
Every question belongs to a key point. In the default Standard mode you practice 2 questions per key point and master it by getting both right; a wrong answer makes the point weak until you get its other questions right. Once mastered, a point is checked with one question after 1, 3 and 7 days (Today's check-ups), and a wrong answer makes it weak again. In Me → Settings → Practice mode you can switch to Quick (1 question per key point, the fastest way to check them all, with one check-up the next day) or Thorough (every question of each key point; get each one right to master it). You can switch anytime: your records stay, and mastery is worked out again the new way. The weak-point drill in My Progress looks only in chapters you have practiced, and about 70% of its questions come from weak key points.

How does Ask AI work?
Once you answer a question, "I have a question for AI" is under the explanation (not during a mock test; after handing it in, you can ask while practicing its mistakes). With an account, you agree to how it works the first time, then ask about the question, its options or its explanation, with up to 3 follow-ups; each account has a daily limit, and the page shows how many questions you have left today. Answers are written by AI (currently Google's Gemini) from the question, its explanation and the handbook material; they may be wrong, and the official driver's handbook governs. Your question goes to our server and to Google; what you ask is kept with your account, shown under the question and in Me → My Ask AI questions, and deleted when you delete this app's data or your Meisheng Account. You can withdraw consent in Me → Settings → Privacy & Permissions. See the privacy policy.

What are Others' questions?
Questions other learners asked AI, rewritten by AI with their consent into general questions and answers without personal details, and shown under related questions. The answers are AI-generated, not reviewed one by one, and may be wrong; the official driver's handbook governs. Tap "Helpful" if one helps; tap "Report" if one is wrong or inappropriate. Reported entries are hidden automatically, we review entries regularly, and accounts that abuse sharing are stopped from sharing. Whether your own questions are shared anonymously is your choice the first time you use Ask AI ("Agree, and share them anonymously" or "Agree, but keep them to myself"), and you can change it later in Me → Settings → Privacy & Permissions → Share my Ask AI questions anonymously.

How do I report a mistake in a question?
Once you have answered, the last line under the explanation is "Something wrong with this question? Tell us". Pick what's wrong (Wrong answer, Explanation unclear, Translation problem or Other) and write a few words; the question number and bank version are sent along automatically, and no account is needed. For anything else about the app, use Me → Settings → Help & Feedback → Send Feedback, or email us. We check reports against the handbook and the law and update the question bank.
